Harry K. Pempey, age 91 of Deland, Florida, went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 28, 2020. He was born in Orlando, Florida and lived there with his older brother Charles. His father ran a bakery in town and his mother was a seamstress. His parents migrated here from Armenia in the late 1800 due to ongoing holocaust. Harry attended medical school in Boston. He eventually moved to the Orlando area with his wife, Elizabeth Mikler. Harry became a member of the Salvation Army in his later years and enjoyed serving in many capacities with the organization.
He like going on country picnics, spending time with family. Also enjoyed going to the range for target practice. Serving meals at the Council of Aging in Deland and helping with the Meals on Wheels program gave him great pleasure as well. He established many friends there. In his spare time, he would work with the Citizens on Patrol program and do ride alongs with the Seminole County Sheriff Department. Interest in aviation and old cars were always a reading pleasure for him. Raising a family of three children and being around them in the end brought great comfort to his soul.
He is survived by his children Susan Reese, Harry Jr., and Jane Cowart; grandchildren Christopher Perry, Amy Wilson, Patrick Cowart, Cody Cowart, Destinee Cowart and Starla Pempey; great-grandchildren Madison Wilson, Caleb Wilson and Jackson Cowart.
