

Karl H. Humpel, Jr., aged 92, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at Oviedo Medical Center in Oviedo, Florida. Born in Ware, Massachusetts to Karl H. Humpel and Geneva D. Chicoine, he spent a year studying at Worcester Polytechnic Institute before joining the Air Force Reserve. From there, he went full time and fulfilled his passion for flying fighter jets and reached the rank of Captain. After 11 years of military service, Karl joined American Airlines in January 1965. He dedicated 29 years to the company and retired as a Senior Captain in 1994, later becoming a member of the Grey Eagles Retired American Airlines Pilots.
Karl’s interests included skiing, hang gliding, motorcycling, and flying biplanes, though nothing meant more to him than his wife and the family they raised together in Trumbull, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his wife Judith and his eldest daughter Geneva DelVecchio. He is survived by his daughter Karen Magrosky and her husband Tom of Weeki Wachee, Florida; his son Karl Humpel, III and wife Marji of Aberdeen, Washington; and his daughter Julie Goettsche and her husband Chris of Oviedo, Florida. Karl is also survived by granddaughters Tiffany Dandeneau and her husband Patrick of Portland, Connecticut; Lauren Blaha, her husband Mike, and their daughter Viviana of Berlin, Connecticut; Jessica Swenson and Jennifer Swenson, both of Kissimmee, Florida.
