He is survived by the love of his life Lisa Giltner to whom he was married 34 years. He also leaves behind his children Lauren Dahl and Robert “Rob” Greenbaum, as well as his sister Sandi Goldstein, her children and grandchildren.
Len will be remembered as one of the early pioneers in the medical field of Ultrasound Imaging. While at the University of Michigan studying Radiology, he became fascinated with the infantile stage of Ultrasound development.
In 1975, when it became apparent that Ultrasound would become a major imaging tool for patient care, Orlando Health recruited him to join their team and bring the first Ultrasound Imaging to Orlando. You cannot imagine the joy when a mother could see her baby and hear its heart beating inside.
He worked tirelessly to advance sonography through professional recruitment and development of technology, for which he was nationally recognized for over forty years.
He served on the Board of Directors of both the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC DMS) and the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), for which he was an early question writer and oral examiner. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR), was President of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), and the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU). Locally, he served on the Board of Directors at Orlando Health, and was the Chief of the Fetal Diagnostics Center at Winnie Palmer Hospital for high-risk pregnancies. He continued to consult with other leaders around the world and work with companies to advance technology equipment.
He co-founded the International Contrast Ultrasound Society (ICUS). This organization has been hosting the ICUS conference in Central Florida for over thirty years. The most renowned experts in the field are invited annually to present the latest advancements in Ultrasound to attendees.
Revered by his colleagues, he truly had an outstanding medical career, but it was his commitment to helping others that will be his enduring legacy. His positive attitude, charming personality, zest for life, and commitment to friendship, will be the traits most remembered by those who knew and loved him.
A Graveside Service, will take place on Sunday June 25, 2023, at 9 AM at Chuluota Cemetery, located at 877 Mills Road, Chuluota Florida 32766
