She met her future husband, Andrew Babchak, at the invitation of her father when Andrew attended her church, Zion Evangelical Lutheran in Chicago, (later Norridge) while stationed in downtown Chicago during WWII. They were married on March 3, 1946 after he returned from the Pacific and were married for 50 years when he passed away in 1996.
Olga was a former member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Norridge, IL where she was involved in many church activities including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, singing in the choir and serving with the Ladies Aid.
As much as she was involved with church activities, she always had time for her family. There were times when her children had to take a number to talk with her when they returned from school because she always wanted to listen to their day. Her family always had homemade noodles, cookies, and many Slovak dishes. She loved to sew clothes for her daughters and spend time with her Lord by reading the Bible and in devotions. There came a time when she needed to work outside the home so she worked for over 10 years at Motorola processing orders.
Olga and Andrew moved to the Lutheran Haven in Oviedo, FL in 1988. While at the Haven she continued serving her Lord by volunteering in the Haven and Cantata choirs, serving on the altar guild, and helping with community suppers. She loved to help her neighbors in any way she could. They were members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, FL.
Olga joined the heavenly choir on Tuesday, March 17 in the hospital with her loved ones by her side.
She is survived by Andrew P. Babchak (Paulette) of Oviedo, FL; Susan (John) Wittrock of Birmingham, MI; daughter-in-law Jean (Joseph) Babchak of Wheaton, IL; Elizabeth Babchak of Cape Girardeau, MO; and Daniel Babchak of Oviedo, FL. She also had nine grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, four godchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is resting, awaiting the resurrection, in St. Luke’s Cemetery in Oviedo, FL next to her husband, Andrew. There will be a Celebration of her Life on July 17, 2026 at 1pm at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo,FL.
