Randall (Randy) Freeman Munro, 70, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at his home in Winter Springs. He was born in Miami, FL on July 21, 1951, to proud parents Bert and Betty Munro, who later welcomed Randy’s first sister, Debra, before the family moved to Winter Park, FL, where Randy’s second sister, Jennifer, was born. Randy attended Park Avenue and Killarney Elementary Schools in Winter Park and later Glenridge and Robert E Lee Jr. High Schools, before the family moved to Atlanta, GA, where Randy graduated from Lakeside High School.
Randy later followed his family to the Clearwater area where his family had relocated. Here Randy worked in commercial real estate and later became a vice-president of sales at Universal Building Specialties in Lakeland. In 2001, Randy renewed his interest in commercial real estate when he became a commercial land analyst for the Orange County Property Appraisers office, where he worked for more than sixteen successful years before retiring in 2017.
Randy enjoyed the great outdoors, both land and sea. He was a member and past president of the Central Florida Pleasure Divers and traveled to many areas of the world seeking diving adventures. He was an equally avid cyclist both off and on road and was an active member of the Florida Freewheelers. He was also a member of, and volunteer for, the Ocala Mountain Bike Association. Randy had a wide circle of friends with whom he enjoyed many other outdoor activities including concerts, festivals, and fishing. In addition to sports, Randy was a faithful member of the Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church of Oviedo.
Randy is preceded in death by his mother and father, Betty and Bert. He is survived in life by his beloved daughter, Christy Derrick and two grandsons John and David of Irmo, SC; his sister, Dr. Debra Munro of Belleair, FL; and sister Jennifer Munro-Golliher and her husband Donald Golliher of Largo, FL. Randy is also survived by numerous cousins, and former wives Jan Munro of Winter Springs, FL and Jan Smith of Boone, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Randy’s honor may be made to any of the organizations he supported monthly: The Salvation Army, Orlando Union Rescue Mission, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church, 3600 Aloma Ave, Oviedo, FL 32765, on Saturday, March 19 at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to lunch at the church following the service. Per Randy’s wishes, the family will conduct a private burial at sea.
