Richard Krake Kiely

LCDR USN Richard K. Kiely passed peacefully on June 19, 2023. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 34 years. Daughters Elizabeth and Pamela. Sister Mary Rogan and brother William E. Kiely. Nephews Jimmy Rogan, Lt. Colonel USMC Bernie Rogan (wife Lori), Major Denis Kiely III, USMC (wife Meg) and Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Kiely (wife Tracy). Nieces Katherine Simpkin and Karen Sanborn (husband Bob), and 12 great nieces and nephews. Stepsons Curtis Jessee (wife Nancy), Randy Jessee (wife Vicki) and Raymond Jessee (wife Kim). He is preceded in death by his brother Colonel USMC Denis J. Kiely Jr. and stepson Rudi Jessee.

Richard was born May 15, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Boston University. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving for three years stationed in Korea. Richard joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 where he began his career at the Navy Intelligence School, serving multiple tours in Vietnam. His entire Naval career was spent in Naval Intelligence until his retirement as a Lieutenant Commander on September 1, 1976.

His military honors include: Navy Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

Richard was an avid model train collector, building an extensive layout in his home near Orlando, Florida.
