Como tale vu

My mother Telesfora Vega Nieves, known as Tita, was a woman of spirit and character. She walked everywhere. Mami spent time traveling from Puerto Rico to New York and then to New Jersey and arrived at my house in Florida. From Florida she returned to her home in Puerto Rico. She achieved that routine every two years.

My daughter visited her at her house in Aguadilla and when she returned she told me that mommy had changed a little. Situations happened with her character that worried me and I went to the island and brought her home to Florida.

At home she shared all the activities with my family. During the time she was with my family I always asked her a question from a phrase in French. I would ask her “Vomo tale vu” and she always answered “Le vu is fine. I asked her that question and she knew that I was the only one who asked her that question.  I asked her to know if she is okay and to know that the person who asked her that question is me, her son. Day after day the same question and the same answer.

Two weeks before she left us I asked her the question. She looked at me and with little strength she answered it. Three days before she left us I asked her the question but she didn't answer it.

Three days before she left us her breathing was very shallow . I asked her the question, “Como tale vu”, but she didn't answer it. I kissed her on the forehead like my dad always kissed her. I answered my question “Le vu está bien.

With much pain in my soul I asked for my benedictions.

I will always miss you.

Tia was always a special part of our family. My first memories of Tia was when my siblings and I first came to New York from Puerto Rico. We were young and lived in Melrose St, having 4 additional mouths to feed was not an easy task for my parents. Tia and Tio would come often to visit, they usually brought bags of groceries with them. There were times when my parents couldn’t take us out and Tio and Tia would bring us with them. Going to the Puerto Rican parade is a memory that stands out. We had a wonderful time that day even though a gentleman (ha ha) tried to get too comfortable near me, Tia blocked the man and he quickly moved away. My memories jump to a time when my dad was going through a difficult time and they took us into their home for a couple of nights while things went back to normal. I always consider Tia to be a tough cookie but she also had a loving and caring soul. I pray that she meets up with Tio and all her loved ones. I love her dearly and wish her a beautiful trip to our heavenly home. ❤️🙏🏻

may you rest in peace with the lord, now you will be with Tio Juan forever. Thank you for being there with us in good and bad times ❤️🙏

Being an only child you’re the sister I had always hoped for. Love you, Norma❤️

Abuela,
   You have been such an important part of who I am. You have taught me so many lessons from sewing, cooking, to having faith in God.
   We had so many treasured special moments. We would play dominoes pass our bedtime. It was so much fun even though you beat me every time. We enjoyed going places throughout NYC, PR and NJ.
   One of the fondest memories are the endless hours you spent sewing not only clothes for yourself but for me. That passion for sewing not only lead you to make short  sets and pj's for your great grandson your chimpancito Jonathan but when a church asked to make chemo hats you did so willingly.
   You were a great role model of youthfulness, strength, wisdom and using your talents freely for others. I'm going to miss you so much. Your love for me and my family (Donald  and Jonathan) is forever imprinted in my heart.
   Abuela enjoy your eternity with my beloved Abuelo. I love you always Sonia.

thank you for all the great memories together, from you teaching me some of your cooking to you hand making me an apron, or simply always buying your chocolate chunk cookies and sharing with us. Thank you for everything you've showed me and done. I love you and miss you so much. I hope you are living the dream up there <3

We will forever miss you Abuela. You have been a shining light in our lives and even now, still are a shining light above. You are now with Abuelo and may your happiness continue with him now and forever more.
