MONTEREY - Angie R. Bruno, a compassionate soul known for her generous heart, peacefully passed away on May 15th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Angie was born in Monterey, California on September 10th, 1936, to Sicilian-American parents, Anthony “Red” and Serafina Compagno. With a deep appreciation, she embraced her Sicilian heritage and its rich traditions. Her love for cooking authentic Italian meals became a beautiful expression of her connection to her roots, bringing joy and unity to her loved ones and the community she cherished.
During her early years, Angie worked at F.W. Woolworth's candy counter on Alvarado Street, where fate intervened, and she caught the eye of Peter J. Bruno. Their love story unfolded, and in September 1955, they exchanged vows at the San Carlos Cathedral, embarking on a lifelong journey together. As parents, Angie and Peter experienced profound joy, welcoming two children, Gus Peter and Debbie Ann, into their lives.
Throughout the decades, Angie embraced various roles and opportunities, leaving a lasting impact wherever she went. From her time spent at the Golden Tee at the Monterey Regional Airport, where she shared her warmth and hospitality with coworkers and patrons alike, to her dedicated work at Walter Colton Junior High School, Angie poured her heart into every endeavor.
Angie's wide circle of friends, many of whom have been by her side since kindergarten, formed an unbreakable bond that has lasted throughout their lives. Their enduring friendship was marked by regular lunch outings filled with laughter and shared stories. Even when physically apart, they remained connected through phone calls, supporting and uplifting each other along life's journey.
One of Angie’s greatest joys in life was being a devoted grandmother to her three beloved grandchildren. She treasured every moment spent with them, celebrating their accomplishments and milestones.
As a devoted member of the Italian Catholic Federation, Angie embraced her faith and dedicated her time to volunteer at seasonal Lent dinners at San Carlos. The impact Angie had on her community and the lives she touched will forever be cherished. Her genuine kindness and profound love will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. While her absence will be deeply felt, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those she leaves behind.
Angie is preceded in death by her son, Gus P. Bruno (1960-1989), her husband, Peter J. Bruno (1931-2021), and her sister, Marian Favalora (1931-2017). She is survived by her daughter, Debbie A. Otmar (Douglas), of Salinas, and daughter-in-law, Marie Aliotti, of Monterey. Angie is also survived by her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Angela Bruno Aliotti of Monterey, Amanda Sisson (Michael) of Salinas, Christopher Otmar of Salinas, and Audrey and Owen Peter Sisson of Salinas.
Visitation will take place at San Carlos Cathedral on Friday, May 26th, at 9:30am, providing an opportunity for all who loved Angie to celebrate her spirit and cherish her memory. Funeral service will begin at 10am.
