

Dr. Antonio F. Laurel, a native of Vigan, Illocos Sur, The Philippines, passed away unexpectedly at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose. A 31-year resident of Pacific Grove, he received his MD Degree from the University of the Philippines with additional degrees as an OB/GYN from Wilmington General Hospital in Delaware and Family Practice in Pennsylvania. Dr. Laurel’s 50-year medical career included practicing at Silas B. Hayes Hospital at Ft. Ord and serving as the Medical Director at Mercy Medical Clinic in Morgan Hill. A devout Roman Catholic, he attended St. Angela Merici Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Monterey Council, #1465. In addition to his wife of 62 years, Philomena, Dr. Laurel is survived by his children: Antonio Mariano (Mary Anne) of Modesto; Maria Brazelton of Pacific Grove; Carlos Joaquin (Elizabeth) of Belfast, Maine; Victor Emmanuel ( Darlene) and Christopher Francis of San Jose; Ray Emmanuel (Elaine) of Union City; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Joel Brazelton. Visitation will be at The Paul Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, March 10 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Church on Wednesday, March 11 at 10:00 AM followed by burial at El Carmelo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to St. Angela Merici Church, 146 – 8th St., Pacific Grove, 93950.
