

Clara Torres passed away in Monterey on October 31, 2022 at the age of 102. Born in Willard, New Mexico on September 21, 1920 to Francisco Antonio Torres and Maria Magdalena Eloisa Sanchez, Clara was the youngest of nine siblings: Jose, Teresita, Amalia, Epifiana, Manuel, Beatrice, Catalina and Aurora.
The Torres family was established in 1598 in New Mexico. Clara was raised on the family ranch in Mesteno, New Mexico
Clara worked briefly in San Francisco with her sister Catalina during World War ll. She moved to California in the late 1940's from New Mexico with other family members settling in Pacific Grove. Clara worked in Pebble Beach and assisted with the childrearing of six (the Verwold Family) of her many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A woman of faith, Clara was extremely talented in quilting by hand, crocheting and cooking the traditional New Mexico foods. Clara was always available for any family or friend when in need.
She is survived by her nephew, Augustine Garcia (Teles); many great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nieces and nephews. Her great-nieces and nephews number twenty-five and she was pre-deceased by fourteen nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary Chapel in Pacific Grove on Monday, November 14 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church also in Pacific Grove, California.
