It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jaroslav Jerry Stepanek, a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, son, brother, friend and colleague who left us on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.
This was a tremendous and unexpected loss for his family, friends, employees and all the people who knew him and loved him, here in the United States and in the Czech Republic. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 50 years, Hana, a cherished and proud father to his twin daughters, Michelle and Christine, and an inspiring mentor to his sons-in-law, Evan and Tyler.
Born in 1956 in Czechoslovakia, Jerry grew up in a country under the shadow of communism. In 1985, seeking freedom and a better life, together with his wife he courageously escaped the oppressive regime and made his way to California, where he would soon plant new roots in Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula. Through hard work and perseverance, he built a successful career as an award-winning general contractor, becoming well-known in the Monterey Peninsula community for his integrity, craftsmanship, and dedication to his clients. His work not only improved homes but also helped shape the community he loved. Over the years, he formed lasting friendships with many of his clients.
Jerry’s life was defined by resilience, courage and an unwavering commitment to his family. He was a man who never shied away from challenges and always found a way to turn adversity into opportunity. Those who knew him will remember his kind spirit and beautiful heart, going out of his way to help others, his infectious smile and a unique sense of humor. He was a true renaissance man with a great knowledge of history, literature, music and science.
Though he has left us far too soon, Jerry’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the many homes where his craftsmanship endures. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his inspiring journey and the mark he left on the world.
He will always be loved and never forgotten.
Rest in peace, Jarku.
You will be forever in our hearts.
The celebration of Jerry’s life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at Center for Spiritual Awakening, 522 Central Ave., Pacific Grove.
