Katharine (Kathy) Anderson passed away on September 6, 2022 after a brief and ferocious battle with cancer. Born June 21, 1950, in Urbana, IL, to Ed and Kay Collins, she fell in love with the Central Coast after living here briefly as a child while her dad was stationed at Fort Ord. Her parents purchased a summer home in the Highlands, and after graduating from university, Kathy moved out here permanently.
Kathy pursued her three great passions, accounting, music, and horses, in Big Sur, Carmel, and Carmel Valley for over 45 years. She was the ranch manager of Oak Hill Arabians and made her home with her two daughters on the ranch in Carmel Valley. She was the choir director at the Carmel Mission Basilica for almost 20 years and worked in the accounting department of Post Ranch Inn for over 25 years, ending her career as their controller.
She loved her daughters, her God, her Catholic faith, the Carmel Mission, Post Ranch Inn, and all animals, especially her most beloved cat, Cleo. She is survived by her daughter Mary Anderson and her daughter and son-in-law Laura and Roger Schwingel.
Kathy's Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 25 at 10am at the Carmel Mission. Her family wishes to thank all the wonderful staff at Community Hospital, especially Dr. Lane Verlenden and Dharma Naidu, PharmD, for their advocacy and excellent, compassionate care of her. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Animal Friends Rescue Project, the Carmel Mission Music Ministry, or the Weston Call Fund for Big Sur, all causes very close to Kathy’s generous heart.
