I was saddened to learn of the passing of one of my favorite classmates from grade school all the way to high school graduation. But I will have many happy memories of her....

I attended the celebration of Lonnie's life in Pacific Grove's Washington Park just this morningbeing there  and hearing the words spoken, all reminded me of the unique person that our Lonnie was. Here she was again, bringing together people from many walks of live, all remembering her kindness, her strong will, her multi-faceted lifeher! I first knew Lonnie in PG High, as a member of our class of 1957. I was a new arrival and was treated kindly by this whole wonderful class, of which Lonnie was always prominent as a leaderand a friend to all. And now, on this obituary page, I'm seeing classmates who, for various reasons couldn't make it to the memorial/celebration. So, there Lonnie is, bringing us together again, in yet another way. Thank you, Lonnie, for being you, always, and still.

I first met Lonnie years ago, when the Lighthouse School merged with David Avenue, and Robert H. Down, forming one elementary school, Robert H. Down.  Such a merge created a very special bond of Kids. From elementary school, through the P. G. Rec Club, the good ole days at P. G. High, through the many pathways of life to this day.  Lonnie Joan had touched the lives of us all, in a positive way, since we all have known her.
     Among many, my most wonderful memory of Lonnie spans back to our Senior Class Picnic at Bollado Park.  I sustained a serious shoulder injury, missing all the fun, spending the whole day sprawled in the back of Ken Didnan's bus.  Throughout the day, Lonnie would enter the bus to see how I was doing.  With her precious smile, she would say, "Hi Connie, how are you feeling"?
     Several days later, I endured surgery at the Monterey Community Hospital.  During my recovery, each day I awoke, I would see Lonnie, sitting at the foot of my bed.  With her warm, sincere, wonderful, broad smile, she would say, "Hi Connie, how are you doing"?  Each day, Lonnie would take the Monterey Bay Transit Bus from Pacific Grove to Monterey round trip.
     The last time I saw Lonnie, was at John and Gloria Webster's home at our Pre-High School Reunion get together.  I was greeted by her, with a hug accompanied by those beautiful eyes, warm, sincere broad smile saying, "Hi Connie, how are you doing"?
     Lonnie, go with God.  I will remember you now, tomorrow and forever.  My very special friend, au revoir.

I first met Lonnie when I moved to pacific grove in the fifth grade....she was someone to admire then and clear through that 12th grade. I moved, so lost tract, but reading everyone's. Memories, she. Was always. One to admire,

I met Lonnie in 6th grade at Lighthouse Ave. School where she was already recognized as an outstanding athlete, scholar, and leader among her peers. For the next 2 years we enjoyed Girl Scouts, parties, and walking to Pine Ave. School together on occasion. When I returned for senior year at PGHS, Lonnie was one of the first to hug me and welcome me back. Lonnie had indeed fulfilled her potential as a leader and scholar, and I admired greatly her optimism, her humility, and her kindess to all.  I am so glad I got to visit her at the 45th and 50th PGHS reunions.  I will never forget her.

I will always remember Lonnie as a friendly, outgoing person, a true leader and an outstanding athlete. My best thoughts to all her family and friends.....she was one of a kind and I am glad I knew her.

Talked to Darren yesterday and he told me about the service, my prayers are with your family.  Love you all.

Lonnie helped make the PGHS class of 57 sparkle.. I remember her as a lovely and sweet young lady.. She will be missed by family and friends..

I am sending condolences on behalf of the Hammond family from Pacific Grove, Calif. Lonnie and our oldest sister, Christine  were friends from High School..class of 1957. I am sure they are now cheerleading in Heaven!

Lonnie was a delightful part of Feast of Lanterns festivities.  I enjoyed her humor and friendly spirit!  I'll remember her fondly.

I don't know what happened to my first entry but I don't see it so I'll start over.
Lonnie and I went to church together at the Methodist Church so I already had a senior friend when I got to High School. I had the honor of being Lonnie's "little sister" my freshman year. 
    When Lonnie came back to PG she helped her Mom with the opportunity drawing for Feast of Lanterns so I got to work with her on that volunteer board. We always enjoyed each other's company.  
    Thanks, Lonnie, for your friendship. I'm gonna miss you.


We will greatly miss you Lonnie but your warmth, kindness and gentle spirit will remain with us forever.

Hi Mom !!!
Well I'm kinda at a loss for words. Yes me !!! I know you're in a better place & no more suffering. I'm grateful for the last few years the fun times we had. Going on a road trip with your mother can be quite the adventure. I will never forget the drive to Angels camp & us getting pulled over for no registration sticker. 
I'm like Mom I think we're being pulled over. Lol 
Then the officer follows us to the DMV in Davis & uses his loudspeaker thing to guide me. Omg. 
Mother was cracking up :)

I'm going to miss you mom & I'm sure more memories will be shared among your friends !!!

Tell your family & friends how much you love & appreciate them. 
None of us are perfect but all of us have something to offer this world.

My sincere condolence to Lonnie's children, family and friends at this time. She must have been a great person because she has great children. That is a wonderful legacy! My prayers are with her family and loved ones. May you all remember all the great memories you shared and each have with her.

Lonnie loved royal blue just like her Mom did and so she wore lots of my royal blue jewelry.  She was a beloved teacher and a kind person.  She will be missed by her students, friends and family.

Lonnie was such a wonderful person..  In our high school years we worked at the old Grove theater together.. She was my pen pal with weekly letters when I was in the Army..

She and her mother were always visiting me at our gas station in Monterey..  I will miss her friendly smile and conversations..  My thoughts and prayers to her family..

Lonnie was so special. She was the kindest person I knew in High School and also the best athlete. She had a wonderful sense of humor too. I cannot recall ever hearing her put another person down. Always positive and upbeat. She is on my prayer list.

Simply stated Lonnie was the best of us.  How sad her wonderful qualities are no longer with us.

Lonnie was a special person loved by all who knew her. After she retired from teaching in the Santa Clara area, she returned to her home town of Pacific Grove and renewed friendships with her classmates.  She enjoyed getting together for breakfast once a month with these classmates to talk about school days, kids and grandkids.  She loved watching baseball and basketball on TV.  We will surely miss her.  Sending prayers of comfort to her family.

I taught for many years with Lonnie at Ellis School.  She was a very kind and caring teacher.  The students knew that she really did care about them and about their well-being.  Lonnie was always extremely thoughtful toward all of us who worked with her.  She will be greatly missed!

Lonnie was well liked by her classmates  at PGHS. She always had that great laugh and beautiful blue eyes that would light the room up.May her family and friends find comfort in the lasting memories of the kindness she gave to others.

Lonnie was one of the most respected girls in our class every year. Even though she could beat the boys at every sport except football they all held her in high regard too. No girl had ever been elected President of the Student Body. She was elected and it was no surprise at all. What a gal! I loved her and we shared two or more sentences that each of us thought were profound and /or touching or funny. Many were about God. We did that off and on through  the four years and I cherished that memory of her. She was never a braggart, always humble, a Christian in all her ways all through school. I am proud to have been her friend ... among the hundreds

She was one of my  teacher when I was at Ellis before I moved to a different state! She was a great  teacher and taught me a lot! I'm thankful that I got to know her! Before this happened to her,  I hope that she read the letter that I wrote! To the Houston families, you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Lonnie has always held a special place in the PGHS Class of 1957.  She was the Student Body President, a very attractive woman, a true leader, good student, great athlete, and a truly GOOD person.  Somehow Lonnie agreed to attend the Senior Prom with me.  We had a great time and became good friends.  After retiring from her career as a special education teacher, she moved back to Pacific Grove and contributed her time and talent to making the 5 year Class of 1957 reunions enjoyable to all: even serving as Master of Ceremonies for the 45th in 2002.  She always talked very fondly about her children, her special ed kids, and her PGHS classmates.  Lonnie you leave a huge hole in our hearts but we recognize that you now rest in true peace with your maker and our other classmates.  Even now Lonnie is gathering classmates and planning another reunion.  We will see you again soon!!  John Webster, Proud Classmate and Friend.

Lonnie was a caring and giving teacher.  I had the pleasure of working with her for many years before her retirement.  She was a wonderful person.

I'll always remember the fun times we had when I was a teen and we did things together.  You always have had a special place in my heart.

Growing up as the youngest of three daughters in our family, Lonnie was seven years older than me. She excelled in school, big shoes to follow. As adults our friendship grew. She cared about every one she met. She saw the world through rose colored glasses, not always as it truly exists.  As I remember her, I have very fond memories. I would like to invite all who knew Lonnie to attend a memorial for her on Sunday November 8th at 11:00AM at Washington Park at 700 Alder St. Pacific Grove.
