

Phyllis Joy Kelley, 89, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2016 after a long illness. Phyllis and her husband of 69 years, Wayne Joseph Kelley, have lived in Carmel since 1971. Phyllis was active as a docent at both Tor House and Point Lobos. At Tor House, her love of poetry and gardening provided visitors with an unforgettable experience. At Point Lobos, she worked with other docents to produce the "Lobos Legacy" slide show, introducing many local schools and civic groups to the poetry of Robinson Jeffers and the beauty of Point Lobos. Extended family and old and new friends alike found welcome at the Kelley's Carmel house, and Phyllis's creativity, humor, and loving heart touched all who knew her. Phyllis is survived husband Wayne, sons Patrick and Shawn, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Kevin. A funeral mass honoring Phyllis's life will be held at the Carmel Mission Basilica on Friday June 24 at 11am, followed by a reception at Crespi Hall.
