Gila Cooper

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Gila Cooper, on Sunday, April 5, 2026. She was married for nearly 49 years to our late father, Herb Cooper, and is survived by her devoted children, Sharon Cooper Lindsey and Glenn Murray Cooper; her son- and daughter-in-law, Robert Lindsey and Sharon Cooper; and her cherished grandchildren — Zach, Sam, Jacob and Jonathan Cooper, and Solis Lindsey. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Tamar Hertanu and Nizza Duvshani and their families, as well as her sister‑in‑law, Ann Simes and her family.

Born and raised in Israel, Gila came to New York at the age of 24 through a teacher exchange program, where she met the love of her life. Three weeks after their first date, she and Herb were engaged, and three months later, they were married — beginning a lifetime of love, adventure, and partnership.

Gila dedicated her professional life to teaching Hebrew and nurturing generations of students with patience, kindness, and enthusiasm. Outside the classroom, she found joy in spending time with her family and friends, traveling, swimming, and riding her beloved tricycle — activities she continued to enjoy almost daily until just before her passing.

Those who knew Gila remember her as radiant, generous and full of life. She was always there for those she loved and became affectionately known in recent years as “the lady in the hat” for her elegant and distinctive style.

Gila will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Star of David Cemetery, 9321 Memorial Park Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33412. Shiva will be observed at Gila’s home, immediately following the service on Tuesday, April 7th until 7pm and will continue Friday, April 10th from 3–7 p.m., and Sunday and Monday, April 12th and 13th from 3–7 p.m. If you cannot attend the funeral, please consider joining us via Zoom and request the link from the family.
