The world became a little less bright for many loved ones as Jack Herbert Ehrlich passed away peacefully on August 8, 2023. Jack was born November 28, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York. At an early age he showed his drive and passion graduating from Lincoln High School at the young age of 16 years before earning his business degree at NYU. Although small in physical stature Jack was a giant in many ways. His love of life and family was only second to the love he had for his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Jean Panzer. They met in high school and were married on February 18, 1956. They eventually settled in Dumont NJ, where they raised three children. Jack was a caring person whose personality created many smiles. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and traveling the world with Phyllis. He enjoyed golfing and drinking wine – when asked about his favorite wine he would often answer “any kind that comes in a bottle” !
Jack began his working life as a longshoreman at the shipping yards in Newark, NJ before joining his father-in-law’s family business, Hanley Printing Company. He eventually took over the business and oversaw the transition into multimedia printing before retiring to Florida in 1997. Over the last 26 years Jack made many new friends and pursued his love of family, travel golf and wine. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Phyllis; son, Bill (Susan) Ehrlich; daughters, Joy (Gary) Garran and Mindy (Mike) Lorenz; as well as his grandchildren, Jenna Sherfer and fiancé Anthony Seniakevgch; Greg (Gabbye) Ehrlich, Lexi Lorenz and Josh Garran; and great grandchildren Jesse and Anthony; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvia and Edward Ehrlich; his brother, Martin Ehrlich; his sister, Paula Fruchtman; and his grandsons, Jesse Garran and Zachary Lorenz.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Star of David Chapel with interment immediately following. The family requests that no flowers be sent but donations may be made to www.Shatterproof.org, www.peggyadams.org or a charity of your choice.
