Lon Devin Bernstein, beloved son of Ira and Janice Bernstein and Elyce Ross died suddenly April 29, 2024, in Port St Lucie, FL. He was born December 5, 1970, in St Louis, MO. Lon was a loving and caring brother of Jill Michelman and Jeremy Michelman (Laura Ceretti-Michelman), uncle of Ben and Natalie Michelman, and devoted dog Dad of Piper. He was a cherished grandson of the late Alec and Helen Bernstein, the late Dr Harry and Sylvia Wiener, and the late Eric and Lee Ross.
Lon, Devin, Lonnie, “The Londo”, Nol was always 100% authentically himself. He could never sit still or stagnate. Lon was always on the move, always contemplating what might come next for him. Frequently changing everything from his cars and homes to his business endeavors, Lon was a mover and shaker. Our spiritual, intelligent and well-educated Lon graduated from University of Missouri – Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, earned a Master of Health Administration from St. Louis University and a Master of Business Administration from Washington University. He was driven to succeed, working tirelessly to build several thriving, award-winning businesses in Missouri and Florida. And while he was a smart, hardworking master of business, he was prone to losing his keys, his phone, and track of time. Anticipating Lon’s unpredictable arrival added an element of excitement to dinners and parties. It was impossible to be upset with him for being late because he would walk in with his bright blue eyes, beautiful smile, and greet everyone with his charming, exceptionally dry sense of humor. To be fair, our always growing and evolving Lon started to arrive not just on time, but early for gatherings in the recent past which was a treat for the hosts who got to spend a bit of time catching up with him before other guests arrived.
Lon had an uncanny ability to connect with people who quickly became deeply devoted to him. He welcomed new relationships into his life. He was a thoughtful, generous friend who was sweet, kind and caring. His lifelong friends loved spending time with him as he provided countless laughs and entertaining stories. Lon is a legend and the tales of his life will continue to be told for decades to come.
Lon loved golf. He loved playing golf, watching golf, falling asleep while watching golf on television, all things golf. His move to Florida made perfect sense because he could easily expand his business and play so much golf. Lon loved the life he built in Florida, his new community, and his treasured friendship with Sandy Thomas. He was truly happy.
Lon was a dog lover through and through. He participated in the rescue of a dog whose owners frequently left the dog tied up outside (shout out to Murphy, a beloved Bernstein dog who was especially fond of Lon) cared for and constantly played with his brother’s many dogs who were all also crazy about him and ultimately, he committed to adopting three loves of his life, Piper, the late Victor and the late Seamus.
Lon left us far too soon and at the top of his game. He will be deeply missed by all the people who were lucky enough to know and love him. We are grateful to have had him in our lives.
If you would like to make a donation in his memory, Animal Rescue and Military Veterans’ charities were both especially important to him.
