LERNER – Martin L. of Palm Beach Gardens, FL died October 2nd from cancer. Mr. Lerner was born in 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, the eldest son of Samuel and Sylvia Lerner. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1956 and also earned a masters degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. Lerner was the former president of the picture tube division of Zenith Electronics Corporation of Melrose Park, IL. Before joining Zenith in 1967, Mr. Lerner had worked for Ford Motors, The Boeing Company, and Illinois Institute of Technology. During his career, Mr. Lerner received over 25 patents for advancements in television manufacturing. His wife, the former Carol Anne Engel, died in 1990 after 30 years of marriage. Mr. Lerner retired in 1993 and moved from River Forest, IL to Palm Beach Gardens. A true “Renaissance Man” he will best be remembered for his mastery of many hobbies including skeet shooting, fishing, woodworking, auto and motorcycle mechanics, photography, model plane building and private piloting. He also enjoyed opera and classical music. He is survived by his brother, Arthur Lerner; three children, Stuart (Margaret Gunn), Daniel (Britta Herlitz) and Lynette Morrow (Christopher) as well as two grandchildren, Casey and Luke Lerner.
