Susan was more than my mentor for 18 years, she was my friend.  She was selfless and giving and kind to everyone who knew her.  She was tireless and passionate about her work, her family, and her friends.  She instilled in me a desire to be the best social worker I could be.  She had a smile and energy that was contagious.  A hug from Susan (and there were always hugs from Susan) could make anything seem better. The world was a better place for her being in it, and a loss now that she is gone.  I will miss her more than I can say.

Susan will truly be missed,  as many have stated she was a beacon of light in all that she did. She was recognized as a leader in our association, she had served as Florida Chapter President, President of National as well as  serving on multiple Chapter and National committees. Susan always found a way to volunteer her talents and to give back to her profession.  She embraced others with her endless smile and warm personality. She mentored by example and was always willing to share her wisdom and skills.  Let her light shine in each of us as we remember her with gratitude for her endless contributions to our profession, but to also challenge each of us to give back to our peers and to our association in her honor.

Susan was gracious, warm, and generous.Of course I will never forget driving across Florida last January with her and Joel. Going out of her way to do a little extra for me was natural for her.

Susan was a Beacon of Light in the healthcare field whose legacy will never be extinguished. I was shocked to learn of Susan's passing.  Unfortunately I never got to meet Susan in person. Our relationship consisted of speaking on the phone - much of the time was spent exchanging ideas and formulating new ones.  She was very knowledgeable.  I enjoyed learning from and talking to her.  She had so much to offer and did so willingly.

Dear Joel and family,

I send my love to all of you and am totally shocked by this news.  Susan is one of the first people I met at my first National Conference in 2002 in Baltimore.  We hit it off both professionally as well as on a personal level.  I respected Susan for her knowledge, patience, wisdom, and her warmth and caring so much about so many people.
