Aurora Verde left this world and passed into the hands of the angels on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. She had spent 81 years on this earth. We miss her dearly.
Aurora was the rock that anchored the family. Her words were full of love, happiness and positivity, seasoned with the occasional jab that would bring you back to reality. She loved to dance. Javier, her husband of 57 years, would take her on trips throughout the valley for the baile grandes. She was an Astros fan, too. My, oh my, you should have seen her hoot and holler when the Stros won the 2017 World Series. Her greatest love, though, were her seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She attended baseball games, golf tournaments and dance recitals, all of them with vigor. She was their #1 fan. Life will not be the same without her.
Her journey on this world began on January 11, 1939. She was born to Jesus and Panfila Contreras Rangel, in La Feria, Texas. Aurora was the fourth of ten children: Estefana Sifuentes, Antonio, Arturo, Alfredo, Alberto, Arnulfo, Jesus, Armando, and Anselmo. She met Javier in 1963, and they married just a few months later, on July 7th, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria. The two moved to Bakersfield, California, before returning to Texas and settling in Houston in 1973. They had two beautiful children, Glynda and Michael.
Aurora spent 23 years working for Walgreens. She started as a cosmetician before becoming the cosmetic supervisor. She was a store manager before she retired in 2002.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Jesus and Panfila Rangel, and also by her brothers, Antonio Rangel and Armando Rangel, as well as her sister, Estefana Sifuentes.
Aurora is survived by her loving husband, Javier, as well as: her daughter, Glynda Balandran and grandchildren Nicholas, Adrian, Alec and Gia Balandran; her son, Michael Verde, with his wife, Gayla Verde, and grandchildren Joshua Verde, Samantha Banda, and Anthony Blue.
Other survivors are her sister-in-law, Ernestina Rangel; her brother, Arturo Rangel and his wife Lupita; her brother, Alfredo Rangel and wife Ruth; her brother, Arnulfo Rangel and his wife, Rosie; her brother, Alberto Rangel and wife, Margarita; her brother Jesus Rangel and wife, Mary; her brother Anselmo Rangel, and many, many nieces and nephews.
We celebrate her life on August 27, 2020, at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas. Family to receive friends at 5:00 pm. Rosary will be held at 6:30 pm. The family requests that Astros attire be worn in honor of Aurora.
