Barbara Nell Kinard

Barbara Nell (Smelley) Kinard passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020. She was 78 years old. Barbara was born on March 27, 1943, to Jewel and Lolan Smelley in Nacogdoches, Texas. She grew up in East Texas and lived in various cities and towns before eventually settling down in the Pasadena/Deer Park area. She held a number of jobs throughout her lifetime including a position at Greif Bros. where she met her husband, Lester Kinard. The couple married on August 4, 1981.

Barbara had an incredibly outgoing personality. She was smart, funny, giving and fiercely protective of her children and loved ones. Her true calling was as a caregiver and she worked many years taking care of the elderly, even opening her home to several of them over the years. She will be remembered for her generosity, humor and the love she shared with her family and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and four of her five siblings. She is survived by her husband, Lester, her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Tommy Ramos, as well as her children and step-children and their spouses: Robert and Monica Balch, Donna and Walter Carlson, Tara and Mark Cannon, John Johnson, Jr., David and Amy Kinard, and Leslie Christian. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Loree, Lindley, Brittany, Casey, Codi, Cullen, Raelyn, Dayton, Cammie and Emily, her 13 great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.

Barbara will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, Texas on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2020.
