Charles “Charlie” Douglas Cotton, cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on June 29, 2021 in Baytown, Texas at the age of 61. Charlie was born on February 18, 1960 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Shirley Richoux Cotton and Robert Cotton but grew up in Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.
Charlie was enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in South Korea where he met the love of his life, Pok Sun and they were married on July 13, 1979. After he was discharged from the Army, Charlie and Pok returned to Port Arthur and in 1981, they welcomed their only child, daughter, Desiree Catherine. Charlie started a decades-long career in the petrochemical industry and that relocated him and his family to La Porte, Texas.
Charlie never missed any event that Desiree was involved in or to volunteer his time to chaperone trips for any of her activities. His heavy involvement in her life provided him the opportunity to be the community dad to her friends. Charlie loved life with his family and friends, a good party, and any chance to deliver a dad joke.
Charlie was known for his love of cooking and baking. From his homemade cookies and pies to his brisket and gumbo, he spent much of his free time cooking for any and all. Some of his most treasured memories were cooking with his mom, Shirley and grandson Gabriel, to his crawfish boils.
There was nothing more important to Charlie than his family and specifically his wife, Pok, who he was honored to be married to for nearly 42 years. His daughter had three sons that he was immensely proud of. Those three grandsons, Jude, Gabriel, and Noah, were a beaming light in his already bright life.
Charlie touched so many lives and loved all those around him deeply. He never met a stranger.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Robert, Bobby (brother) and Becky (sister). He is survived by his wife, Pok, and their daughter, Desiree, and grandchildren, Jude, Gabriel, and Noah. Charlie was also survived by his mother, Shirley, Jenny (sister), Cathy (sister), and Jeff (brother), and many nieces and nephews. Until we meet again…
