

Christopher Bruce Scogin passed away on March 30, 2023, at 76 years of age. He was born in Houston, TX and at a young age moved to Pasadena, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Hays Alton Scogin, mother, Tommie Rutherford Scogin, and grandchild, Job Christopher Hays Scogin. He has lived in Pasadena, TX, and Wahiawa, HI.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the height of the Vietnam War aboard the USS Benjamin Stoddert. During this time, the Stoddert was assigned homeport at Pearl Harbor, HI. He fell in love with the beautiful scenic island of Hawaii and at the same time fell in love with who would become his future wife, Ruth.
Chris and Ruth first met at Waipahu Church of Christ and were later married on January 27, 1968. They were together for over 55 years. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Scogin; children; daughter, Stacey and husband, Chris Martinez of Albuquerque, NM; son, John Scogin and wife, Weah of Deer Park, TX; and grandchildren, Sierra Martinez, and Kaleo Martinez.
He had many interests and careers throughout his life. He studied Marine Biology at Leeward Community College and assisted the University of Hawaii with oceanic soil samples. He was also an antenna rigger at Pearl Harbor for 7 years. He deployed to Antarctica as a GS-7 and was part of a government operation that assisted with establishing scientific research stations. When the Scogin family moved to Pasadena in July of 1979, he took the reins from his father and managed Port Houston Sheet Metal for over 15 years. He also worked for several different sheet metal fabrication, roofing, and later structural detail and design companies such as Oates Industries, J.E. Merit, and Baytown Drafting, Inc. Chris was a great outdoorsman and loved to go fishing. He was also the head cubmaster and scoutmaster for a Pasadena troop for over 7 years.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on April 6th, 2023, at the Grand View Funeral Home with service beginning at 10:00 am with Charles Davis of Watters Road Church of Christ officiating. Committal service will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
