Eldon E. “Paw” Hughes, loving husband, father, and grandfather has left us to be with our Lord on December 18, 2021 at Clear Lake Regional Hospital near his home in Friendswood, Texas where he has lived for the past eight years. Eldon was born to Dudley and Hazel Hughes and grew up in Henderson County and Pasadena, Texas.
After graduating from Pasadena High School, Eldon married the love of his life, Janie Hardy and bought a home in Pasadena where they started their family. From 1950 until 2013 Eldon and Janie made various homes between LaPorte, Deer Park, and Pasadena. While supporting his wife, Eldon worked for Rohm and Haas and raised two beautiful daughters. Although his goal in life was to be the Best Dad Ever, he always made time for his extended family and friends.
Aside from work and his devotion to family, Eldon developed a keen interest in automobiles, for that matter, anything that had an engine or motor in it. One of many highlights in his life, he was given a gift from his children to drive a NASCAR stock car at the Texas Motor Speedway. In 2013, Eldon and Janie retired to the Village on the Park in Friendswood where they lived out their lives.
Eldon is survived by his daughter Kay and her husband Rick and their daughter Erin; his daughter Joy and her husband Christopher; and his extended family Paul and Nancy Rathbun and their children and brother, Jerry Hughes.
A visitation for Eldon will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
The family would like to extend a loving thank you to Eldon’s caregivers Marlize and Eva Olmos.
Rather than flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grandviewfunerals.com for the Hughes family.
