Eugene was a shining example of what people should strive to be, I only knew him for the past year when I moved in across the street from him. He instantly took me in. Almost every day, whether I was coming home from college or work,  he was sitting in his front lawn on his chair or swing, enjoying the fresh air, the animals, and a cold one. The second I stepped out of my car, he always made sure to holler at me “hey stranger” or “hey cowboy” “would you like to enjoy a nice refreshing beverage with me?” And I would. I’d sit with him, and we’d talk for hours about life, work, school, marriage, our military experiences, his time in Korea. He loved showing his latest wood working creation, roosters, crosses, or showing off his swing he made, that he loved and enjoyed every second he could. He enjoyed so much in life, especially the small things we forget about in the mundane and hustle bustle parts of life, and he shared them with everyone he could. He took nothing for granted, and enjoyed everything he could, still dancing on the weekends, going out, making friends, and more, all the way to his final day with us. I’d like to be the type of man he was. Honest, kind, giving, selfless, but still human, fun loving and full of humor, and jokes that I’ve never heard and had to share with my wife because they were about the funniest things I’ve ever heard and occasionally made even I blush. I wish I could’ve known him longer, and I regret not spending more time with him, I’m beyond thankful for the time I did get to spend with him and know him.  I moved here to Baytown to become part of a new family, and though he was the long time neighbor to some and a new neighbor to me, he was just as much a member of that new family to me. It’s no surprise he will be missed greatly, and you’ve left behind one hell of a standard for us to strive for and achieve and big shoes to fill. Rest In Peace Mr. Eugene. 

I have been friends and neighbors with  Gene for approximately 13 years across the street from him. I can’t remember too many days he wasn’t there ( except when on a cruise or other vacation).  I have spent many evenings hanging out with him and sharing a beer or glass of wine and talking about his military time, his love for dancing, his time working for Beckmann, and his special passion for creating in his wood-shop.  He loved showing off his latest creation whether it was a hand crafted cross, a rooster for a weather vane, or nativity scenes that he would make for the yearly KC fundraiser.  He loved it when we would bring him food, but even more so when he came over for dinner.  He always brought a bottle of Honey wine, or Riesling as he didn’t want to come empty handed.  He talked for months about the hamburgers we made with a fried egg on top. He would jokingly say he needed the empty containers he returned to us to be filled again as he didn’t know how they got empty.  He had more life in him than most people a fraction of his age I knew and I am glad to have been his friend.

Janet, every time you would fuss that you couldn't get him to slow down, I just had to grin. He lived life to the fullest, and I'm proud of him. You know he's happy, and I hope the Lord gives you all peace. I love you, Sis.

So sorry for your loss.  I grew up in Pasadena and worked with Eugene back in the 80’s many times and went to his Pasa. house in the mornings before we’d head to work. Was a wonderful man. God bless him.
