He was born in Channelview, TX, on August 4, 1965, to Oscar Armstrong Jr. and Mary “Mimsy” Peebles. John was married to his beloved wife Nellene for 16 years, a very proud father and patriot.
Johnny spent his formative years in Galena Park, TX, and graduated from Galena Park High School in 1983. An outdoors enthusiast from a young age, Johnny was always outdoors, whether it was riding bikes, playing ball with friends, activities in or near the water, or fishing and hunting with family.
After graduating from high school, he proudly served in the US Air Force as an electric power line technician and an electric power line technician instructor, while achieving the rank of SSGT. He was stationed at Whiteman and Sheppard Air Force bases. Following his military service, John transitioned to work in petrochemical plants along the ship channel. He eventually found his professional home at the Citgo/LyondellBasell refinery, initially as an electrician. In 2009, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Project Management from AIU, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He then worked as a Project Manager for Lyondell until his retirement in 2022, culminating a 32-year career.
John loved his family above all else and was so proud of his kids. He also had a knack for making friends wherever he went. At home, John could often be found in his garage 'spot' talking to family and friends. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros, as well as an avid golfer. John enjoyed cruising the Caribbean with his wife and family, cherished spending time on Crystal Beach with his family and friends, and will be remembered as the provider of McDonald Chicken McNuggets at every family function.
John was deeply involved in his community, serving as a volunteer first responder with the La Porte and Crystal Beach FDs and as a Captain with the Lyondell Emergency Response Team. He was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge (Aerie 3719).
