John Noel Avalos, age 63, passed away leaving behind a lifetime of music, laughter, wisdom, and unforgettable honesty. A professional musician at heart and by trade, Noel’s life was shaped by rhythm, guitar strings, and the rock legends he loved — especially Rush, KISS, and the timeless classic rock sounds that fueled his passion. Music wasn’t just something he played; it was how he connected with the world and with the people he loved by expressing the joy and wonder he believed were gifts to be shared. He enthusiastically shared his gifts as a founding member of the band Interphase, which drew crowds all around Baytown and surrounding areas, and other bands during his musical career. Additionally, Noel also assisted other musicians by recording their music in his recording studio & offering advice intended to improve their sound.
Beyond the stage, rehearsals & recordings, Noel loved being a dad to his four sons and being part of their journey as they grew into young men. Noel also found peace riding motorcycles and spending time taking in the beauty of the ocean. The water reflected his spirit — deep, steady, and endlessly thoughtful and reminded him that in life, we are guided by something greater than ourselves. Those who knew him well understood that beneath his blunt, tell-it-like-it-is nature was a deeply insightful and philosophical soul. Noel spoke his truth without hesitation, but always with intention. His words — sometimes sharp, often profound — had a way of staying with you long after the conversation ended and encouraged you to think, grow, and trust in life’s bigger picture.
Later in life, Noel met the love of his life, Pam, and together they built a bond rooted in companionship, laughter, and gratitude for the time they shared. Loving Pam meant loving her family, and Noel embraced that role wholeheartedly. He became a mentor and steady presence to her children and grandchildren, teaching them how to drive, guiding their hands on guitar strings, and offering life advice whenever it was needed — and sometimes when it wasn’t. His lessons extended far beyond practical skills; he reminded them to be true to themselves, to stay grounded, and to appreciate the blessings around them.
Noel was stubborn, and he fought a good fight to ensure he was with his family as long as possible. He passed away on February 6th surrounded by his family who will miss him greatly.
He leaves behind his wife, Pamela Avalos, sons Jacob, Chris, and Ian Avalos, bonus children Melissa Mansfield and Jeff Zamora, granddaughter Alayna Avalos, bonus grandchildren Morgan Blanton, Madison Hattaway (and fiancé Zay Klingen), Mason Mansfield, Ethan Zamora, and Everly Zamora, bonus great-grandchildren Jax Klingen and Oakley Mansfield, father Johnny Avalos, mother Olga Torres, and numerous close friends and family members. Noel was preceded in death by his beloved son Noel Ryan Avalos whom he missed dearly & is now reunited with for eternity.
Noel will be remembered for his fierce authenticity, his musical talent, his reflective mind, and the spiritual awareness that shaped his perspective on life. Those who loved him take comfort in knowing his spirit lives on --- in the music he created, the lives he guided, and the faith that our connections endure beyond this world. Though the music has quieted, Noel’s melody lives on in the lives he shaped, the songs he played, and the memories that will echo for years to come.
“Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?” - Clarence Odbody
