

Mary Elma Carpenter passed from this life on April 29, 2012 in Nassau Bay, TX. She was born on July 9, 1926 in Alamance County, NC to the union of William and Mary Douglas. Mary is preceded in death by her parents William Andrew Douglas and Mary Elizabeth Garrison-Douglas; as well as all her siblings. She is survived by her husband Robert L. Carpenter; 5 children, Barbara Speer and husband Roger, Brenda Lucas and husband Craig, Jennifer Cobb and husband Ralph, Robert Carpenter and wife Terri, and John Carpenter; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Mary was a lady of the forties. She fell in love with a handsome debonair soldier who swept her off her feet. They were married and began a life long journey of 66 years together. Mary and Robert had 5 wonderful successful children, and Mary was very proud of each of them, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loyal best friend, and confidante to all, always there when someone needed her. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. John's Hospital, and Christus Hospice for the loving care given to Mary. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or Christus Hospice. Funeral services will take place on Monday May 7, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Houston National Cemetery with interment to follow.
