Born in 1934 in Bonham, Texas, Mary grew up amid a large, extended loving family of 8 sisters and 10 brothers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Etta & Earl Baugh and Esther & Albert Holt, husbands Cameron E. Smith and Claudie Dunlap, and 1 sister and 7 brothers.
Mary arrived in Houston, Texas in 1952 at the age of 18, where she took up residence with her beloved aunt and uncle, Pearl & Herman Pendley. She became a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, and soon after met and married Cameron Smith of Pasadena, Texas. They had 3 children: Cameron Jr., Cherri, and David. Married for 29 years, Mary was widowed at the age of 48. She later married her second love, Claudie Dunlap, a retired Baptist minister, to whom she enjoyed a second marriage lasting 20 years.
Mary’s greatest joys were God, church and family. She also enjoyed reading, learning, gardening, and volunteer work.
Mary is survived by her children, Cameron Smith, Jr., Cherri & Brad Simon, and David Smith. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Jessica Shafer & Amy Harris, Tucker & Jessica Simon, Kirby & Joanna Simon, and two great-grandchildren, Cameron & Sydney.
