

Neil Jackson “Jack” Calhoun, 94, South Houston, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 8, 2015. He was a resident of South Houston for 68 years, and since 2014 was a resident of Friendswood Health Care Center, Friendswood, Texas where he was lovingly cared for by their wonderful staff.
Born November 23, 1920 to Ewing Bryan and Hattie Myrtice Brock Calhoun in Tolbert, Texas, he graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1939 where he met his future wife, Leola Melton. They married in 1941 in Weatherford, Texas and shortly after moved to Houston, Texas and later settled in South Houston in 1946.
Jack and Leola were married for nearly 73 years and were longtime members of Faith United Methodist Church of South Houston and then, First United Methodist Church of Pasadena. They shared a remarkable bond as well as a deep faith in Jesus Christ and were very active with their church family.
He worked for Offenhauser Company, Houston, for 46 years where he was foreman of the ornamental metal fabricating division. In retirement, he remained very active not only with his church, but also by coordinating a large senior citizen group, and operating his own vending machine business, “Jack’s Snacks”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtice and E.B. Calhoun; his wife, Leola Calhoun; his brothers, O.M. ”Bud” Calhoun and N.B. ”Pete” Calhoun; his sisters, Leda Mae Rackley and Idella Rackley. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Scott Williams.
He is survived by his daughter, Jackie Calhoun Williams and husband, John Duncan Williams, III of Pearland, Texas; and by his granddaughter, Holly Williams Lyons and husband, John Lyons; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Abigail, and William Lyons, all of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, Texas.
A celebration of life service will be help on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, 1062 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena.
