Patricia Kay Coburn went to be with Christ on January 31, 2026, at the age of 74. She was born in Houston, Texas, on December 23, 1951. Mrs. Kay, as she was known throughout the Deer Park community, lived a life marked by dedication and deep love for her family and community.
She was a true example of how to treat others—how to love people well—and she was a devoted friend, mother, grandmother, aunt and wife. Kay and her family cherished many wonderful memories together, including vacations to the Guadalupe River, shopping in Gruene, and endless summers spent on Lake Livingston at her parents’ lake house. One of Kay’s favorite pastimes was sitting on the back porch with her husband, Shane, cheering on the Houston Astros and yelling at the Texans.
Outside of her devotion to family, Kay treasured her friendship with her lifelong best friend, Carolyn Lovorn. Whether it was girls’ trips to see Lionel Richie or trips to New Braunfels to “stalk” George Strait, those memories with her partner in crime will live on forever as she now waits in Heaven.
Mrs. Kay served as the Director of the Methodist Weekday School for 42 years, where she made a lasting impact through her leadership and unwavering commitment to the children of the Deer Park area. Over those four decades, the teachers and children she served became more like family than friends. The family often joked that you couldn’t go anywhere in Deer Park without hearing, “Mrs. Kay! Mrs. Kay!” Please know that Kay Coburn loved you all dearly.
Kay was married to Shane Coburn for more than 52 years. Their marriage is a testament to enduring love and partnership. Through good times and bad, they never left each other’s side and will continue to serve as an example of what marriage and commitment should look like.
She was the beloved daughter of Gene and Nancy Reynolds, who welcomed her into Heaven. Kay is survived by her daughter, Trisha Richardson, and her husband, Kyle Richardson; her son, Chris Coburn, and his wife, Jamie Coburn; her sister, Beverly Bahnsen, whom she loved deeply; and her brother, Royce Reynolds. Family was everything to Kay. Being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, it was always important to her that her family stayed close and supported one another.
Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Nate Richardson, Ella Richardson, Avery Coburn, and Wyatt Coburn. “Nana,” as they lovingly called her, will forever live in their hearts, watching over them and protecting them from above. She adored these four beyond measure, and her love and lessons will continue through them. They were truly her “Joy”!
The family takes comfort in knowing that Patricia Kay Coburn—wife, mother, grandmother sister, aunt, and friend—now rests with her Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven, free from pain and serving as a guardian angel to those she loved. Mrs. Kay was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
Please pay your respects to the family on February 12th at Grand View Cemetery between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
