Paula Lynne Pyle Wohnoutka of La Porte, Texas, passed away on April 27, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on April 23, 1946, she was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton Pyle and Betty Jo (Charles) Bierer.
Paula is survived by her devoted sister, Sandra (Gary) Pruett; her children, Steve (Sheila) Wohnoutka and Crystal (David) Aguillon; and her beloved grandchildren Trey (Madison), Joshua, Nicolaus, and Luke Aguillon, Peyton (Pierce) Weiss, and Chase Wohnoutka. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Mia Aguillon. Extended family the Bernsteins, Aguillons and several friends of over 50 years.
A 1964 graduate of Milby High School, Paula married in 1967 to George Wohnoutka, and though divorced in 1981, remained on good terms, a testament to her ability to maintain meaningful relationships.
Once her children were grown, Paula pursued higher education, earning degrees from San Jacinto College and the University of Houston. During this time, she worked at San Jacinto College and later at the district office, where she continued her career until retirement.
Volunteering was one of Paula’s greatest passions. She poured her heart into serving her community through organizations such as The Wheelhouse in Deer Park, the La Porte Police Department, and the La Porte Animal Shelter, where she volunteered daily from open to close until the pandemic. She also cared for the smallest members of the Fairmont Park Church congregation by working in the nursery. Her commitment to helping others was evident in every aspect of her life.
In addition to her volunteer work, Paula took on many local jobs over the years, delivering goods to businesses, pet and house sitting, transporting others in need, and working the polls during election season.
For the last four and a half years of her life, Paula lived at Baywood Crossing, where she was deeply loved by staff and fellow residents alike. Her warm, playful personality earned her the nickname “Ambassador,” as she greeted guests, wrapped gifts, prepped crafts, and made it her mission to help others feel welcome.
Paula never met a stranger. Whether at a store or a restaurant, she would strike up a conversation and find the manager to offer compliments, even when none were due. Her kindness, authenticity, and contagious joy touched everyone she met.
Above all, Paula loved her family deeply. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren. She held a special place in her heart for those who served in the military and law enforcement, and she was a proud Texan and faithful Christian until the very end.
Her memory lives on in every life she touched, with a kind word, a helping hand, or a smile that made a stranger feel like a friend.
