Mrs. Retha Morgan, 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, surrounded by those she loved. She was born January 5, 1930, and was the third of six children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd & Mae Henbest, and her siblings Jackie Henbest, FJ Henbest and Fleta McGraw. She is survived by her faithful husband of 66 years, Mr. Clarence Morgan and her sisters, Lou Ingle and Trela Graham. Also surviving the loss of Mrs. Morgan are her three children: Letitia Wheeler and husband Jimmy Wheeler, Jana Childs and husband Jeff Childs, and Aaron Morgan and wife Lori Morgan.
Mrs. Morgan leaves a legacy for her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Jonathan Wheeler and wife Kristin with two children, Jordan and Jayden; James Wheeler and wife Hannah with two children, Jurnee and Dax; Logan Childs and wife Emily; Sara Roxby and husband Kyle with two children Madeleine and Evelyn; Colby Morgan, Hunter Morgan, and Zachary Morgan.
She also leaves behind generations of nieces and nephews who love her dearly. Mrs. Retha, as she was known to many, cared for many young children in her home and shaped the lives of those she came to love as her own as well as her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Gran, as her family knew her, will be remembered for the traditions she and her husband established and continued of Christmas Eve gatherings and Sunday dinner. She was abundantly patient, kind, and more than anything, gentle. Despite the many challenges Mrs. Morgan faced in her life, she always had a smile for everyone. She was a fierce and righteous follower of Christ and lived out her faith in her words and deeds.
Mrs. Morgan spent many hours at the Nazarene Church where she was a member, volunteering to work with children in Sunday School classes or scouting programs and was an integral part of welcoming and encouraging others in their decision to be a disciple of Christ. Through her faithfulness to God and through doing His work in the church, Mrs. Morgan became a mentor to many, setting an example of what it means to be a Godly wife, mother, and prayer warrior.
The legacy Mrs. Retha leaves is expansive in its reach, and she will be remembered in the acts we take to love and care for one another, just as she did for so many of those around her. There will be a private family service to honor her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene towards PF Sports to help children in the church and community play sports while also being able to learn about Christ. 3610 Watters Rd. Pasadena, Texas 77504, or call 713-944-2268 for more information.
