

Richard Herbert Gaede died Friday, August 20, 2010 at the age of 73. He was born January 8, 1937 on the family farm near Hoxie, Kansas. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School, Hoxie High School and Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska. He taught for 40 years at Zion Lutheran School, Pasadena. He also served Zion as Athletic Director and coach, and coached football at Lutheran High South. He was a founding team member of the Lutheran Schools Outdoor Education Program. He formed and bowled on the Zion Bowling League, played fast pitch softball in both Pasadena and Houston and in retirement became an avid golfer, playing with the “Bandits” at various courses. He found much enjoyment in singing with Zion’s Praise Team, and was an avid wood turner and Alaskan sport fishing enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joann Gaede; daughters, Rebecca Gaede-Ramage (Harry), Pasadena, Erika Rolf (Gary), Seward, Nebraska, Susan Gaede, Pasadena, son, Neil Gaede, Houston; grandchildren, Reagan and Micah Ramage, Malia and Isaac Rolf; brother, Carl Gaede (Arleda), Hoxie Kansas; sister, Phyllis Karnes, Hoxie Kansas; sister-in-law, Shirley Gaede, San Antonio. He is preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Amanda Gaede; brother, Robert and son, Ethan.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 23, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grand View Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Grand View Memorial Park. A memorial service will then follow at 7:00 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 5050 East Sam Houston Parkway South, Pasadena, TX 77505.
