Scottie Irene Collins, 79, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Sevierville, Tennessee. Miss Scottie, as she was affectionally called by many, will be remembered by her hospitality, generosity, prayerful intercession, close friendships, and willingness to help those in need. She was raised in Blytheville, Arkansas, picking cotton from her daddy’s fields to pay for her school supplies and clothes. She said the proudest moment of her life was April 20, 1963, when she married William R. Collins in his Air Force Blues at the Cherry Street Church of God.
Scottie lived in the Houston area from 1964 – 2016 where she worked for the Pasadena and Deer Park Independent School Districts, served as a CNA for hospice patients, taught Sunday school for preschoolers, and learned American Sign Language at the age of 60 to communicate with a deaf child.
Her favorite verse was John 14:2-3, “In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years; her daughter, Rebecca Lynn Collins, and son, Russell Allen Collins; her parents, Allen and Golden Hood; three brothers, Frank, Callie, and Donald; sister-in-law, Betty Hastings, and many special friends.
She is survived by her son, William “Scott” Collins and wife, Penny, of Trinity, Texas; daughter, Rev. Sandra Kay Williams and husband, Dr. Mark L. Williams; two grandsons, Dr. Austin M. Williams and Ryan L. Williams of Cleveland, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Bob Collins and wife Lynn; beloved sisters-in-law, Carol Parten and Glenda Sue Meek; precious step grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and family friends.
Special thanks to University of Tennessee Hospice for their attentive care and support in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her memory to the Iris B. Vest Spirit Care Center https://www.spiritcarecenter.net/donate-give where she lived among widows and seniors since September 2016. She proudly volunteered in the office, answered phones, served on the admissions committee, led chapel worship, prayed, played, laughed, and lived joyfully with staff and residents as dear friends.
A visitation at 6:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM will be held at Thrive Church of God, 1103 Dolly Parton Pkwy, Sevierville, TN 37862 on Monday, February 3, 2025, with Pastor Philip Morris officiating.
On Saturday, February 8, 2025, the family will also receive friends at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505, at 9:00 AM (CST) followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM in the chapel officiated by Dr. Mark L.
