Troy Allen Thurmond (Troy Allen, TA, Mr. T, and most importantly “Papa”), age 82, was called home on Thursday, June 17, 2021, in Pasadena, Texas. By the Grace of God, he was brought into this world on July 25, 1938, to Allen Murray “Cotton” and Thelma Lucille “Lucy” Thurmond in Beeville, Texas. He later graduated from A.C. Jones High School before spending a year at Texas A&M. At the age of 23 he met the love of his life, Cleo Lynette Thurmond, whom he later married on December 24, 1960. Together they brought two beautiful children into this world and were fortunate to celebrate 53 years of marriage.
Troy had the need for SPEED! While living in the fast lane, he found nothing was more invigorating then racing boats, although he did enjoy water skiing from time to time. He almost never missed a local car show, however, no one truly knows if it was actually for the cars or the “Woo-Woo Babies” walking around. He had a profound love for cars, especially Corvettes, and enjoyed watching NASCAR most of all. You didn’t touch the remote if NASCAR was on the TV, even though he was napping, a lesson the grandkids learned at a very early age. If he wasn’t watching NASCAR on TV, it was either sports or a good ole’ Western movie.
Troy was a member of the Pipefitters Local Union No. 211 where he had the ability to travel all over the United States with his family. He worked as a supervisor for Bechtel for numerous years on countless projects. After retiring in 2003, he worked part-time for Acme Truck Line, Inc. to keep himself busy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Cotton, and mother, Lucy; his two brothers, Gene and Neal; his wife, Cleo, and his son, William Allen.
His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter Sherri Juel and husband, Leroy; his granddaughter Ashlee’ Smith and husband, Wes; his grandson Clayton Juel; his great-grandson, Maddox Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00pm with the Funeral Service being held at 10:00am on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Grand View Funeral Home and the burial following at Grand View Memorial Park. The family would also like to invite everyone to the Thurmond Residence for a reception to Celebrate the Life of Troy Allen Thurmond.
“In our hearts you will always be.
Your love, your voice, and your smile
will be forever imprinted in our minds.
Always loved. Forever missed.”
