Vada Wise was born on September 18, 1927 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Tony & Kayte Willhoite. Vada became actively involved in her local church where she traveled with a women’s quartet singing around the area. She also graduated from Stamps/Baxter School of Music.
In 1947, Vada married Elwood Wise. Having two children, they moved from Oklahoma to Pasadena, Texas in 1951 where they soon built a new home in the Deepwater Neighborhood.
Vada immediately became a part of The United Pentecostal Church of Pasadena. Shortly after, she became the church pianist and eventually the choir director. During this time, she gave birth to two additional children.
Her days were full with raising children, teaching piano lessons, selling Avon and even being a cookware demonstrator at Sears where customers would make special trips to the store just to see what she had come up with that day!
A bigger heart than Vada’s would be hard to find. Whether you were a visiting minister, young family, neighbor, someone in need or even her own family….she would not hesitate to empty her closet, fridge or pantry to help someone else. During the last many years, she embraced her calling to the Ministry of Encouragement. Writing cards, notes and letters to people around the world…for no other reason but to encourage them on their journey. But then she would back those up with consistent prayer until she was satisfied she had broken through on their behalf.
Vada Wise took her flight to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 while the song “Goodbye World, Goodbye” was playing.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She leaves behind four children: Kent E. Wise of Pasadena, Texas, Toni L. Gott of Seabrook, Texas, Erik D. Wise of St. Petersburg, Florida and L. Todd Wise of Seabrook, Texas; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of friends and loved-ones that are forever impacted by her love.
