

Bertha spent a large part of her life in Oak Harbor, Ohio and Phoenix, Arizona before settling with her husband in Pharr. She retired from the PSJA school district to enjoy traveling with her husband and helping raise her grandchildren. Bertha was proud to know PSJA Memorial High School named their performing arts building after her son, Robert.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents Pablo Sr. and Soledad Salazar, her husband Robert Gomez Sr. and her son Robert Gomez Jr. and five siblings. She is survived by her daughters Gloria Gomez Ibarra of Wimberley, TX, Luisa Gomez DeLeon (Javier) of McAllen, TX, and daughter-in-law Rachel Canfield Gomez of Austin, TX, as well as her brother Pablo Salazar Jr. of Pharr. Bertha adored her six grandchildren, Christine, Javier, Melissa, Shelby, Lauren, and Lucy; 9 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews she considered as her own children.
Bertha’s family is most grateful for the care and love she received from the staff of San Juan Nursing Home and Compassionate Care Hospice. She will be laid to rest at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens during a private family service.
Funeral services are under the direction of Funeraria del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr.
