Eva was born on July 15, 1959, to Elijio Arjona Sr. and Eloisa Arjona in Mcallen, Texas. She was one of three children: the late Elijio Arjona Jr. and Erasmo Arjona.
Shortly after graduating from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School in 1977, Eva began her thirty-six-year career with Region One Education Service Center in Edinburg, Texas, as an administrative assistant. It was there that she established a strong comradery with her supervisors and co-workers that she enjoyed long after retirement.
In December of 1984, Eva met Ricardo at a local Wendy's in Edinburg. Their first date was to a Christmas cantata at a local Christian church. Eva and Ricardo were married at St. Anne Catholic Church in Pharr on December 28, 1985. Their marriage was blessed by one daughter, Mayra Ivonne Carranza.
In 2015, Eva retired from Region One ESC and spent her time doing what she liked best: shopping at Wal-Mart where she had direct deposit and checking out the newest merchandise at JOANN Fabric and Craft Store. She also developed an interest in sewing and joined the Master Clothing Volunteers at Hidalgo County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Edinburg. She had the privilege to serve the organization as president and as treasurer just a couple of years ago.
Anyone who knew Eva will attest to her remarkable personality and to her being a down-to-earth woman. Her beautiful sense of humor was recognized and loved by her friends and family. Some would even say she was also very witty and fun. She loved the beach, Barry Manilow, sewing, Marco Antonio Solis, swimming, TV soaps, Barry Manilow, and collecting frog paraphernalia. She was Ricardo's Lovely Wife, his biggest supporter in his various endeavors, and definitely his best friend. She was an excellent and amazing role model for Mayra. And to her five precious grandchildren, she will be remembered as their Krazy Grandma. Eva was, by all accounts, kind-hearted and generous to a fault.
Eva was predeceased by her beloved parents, her brother, and several uncles, aunts, and cousins. And let's not forget Rambo, her loyal white Chihuahua, who will also be waiting for her at the Gates of Heaven. She is survived and missed by her husband, Ricardo Carranza; her daughter, Mayra Ivonne Carranza; five grandchildren, Faith Ivonne, Raul Troy, Nathan Alexander, Maximus Orion, and Christian Leonidas. She is also survived by her brother in law, David and Esther Carranza; her brother, Erasmo Arjona, as well as many cherished extended family members and dear friends. The FaceTime, phone calls, letters, cards, and visits that Eva received during the final weeks of her life were a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to her.
Serving with honor and and distinction as pallbearers will be Raul Troy Cantualla, Nathan Alexander Rodriguez, Maximus Orion Rodriguez, David Carranza, Guillermo Valdez, and Adan Mares. Honorary pallbearers will be Rolando Moreno, Mike Reilly, Victor Rios, and Cecilio Hilario III. Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless other who loved her profoundly. The family deeply appreciates the prayers and support from Prayer Warriors everywhere during this difficult time and asks for continual prayers for the bereaved family of this beautiful soul.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 5pm to midnight with a rosary service at 7pm.
