Gilberto Lopez Cantu, age 73, of Pharr, Texas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 24, 2020. Gilberto was born May 12, 1947 in Alamo , Texas to Raul and Elena Cantu.
Gilberto is survived by his sons, Fernando Guerra and Randy Cantu, three grandchildren, Nicolas Guerra, Robert Guerra and Steven Guerra as well as his brother, Jesse Cantu.
Gilberto was preceded in death by his parents Raul and Elena Cantu, brother, Johnny Cantu and grandson Derek Anthony Guerra.
Gilberto was a beloved father, brother and veteran that served our country for 10 years in the Army National Guard. He was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley and attended Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School where he played on the football team. He was an avid football fan, and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed bringing family and friends together particularly cooking and having BBQ’s. He was a family oriented man and enjoyed helping and serving others, especially those in need. His hobbies also included fishing and golf. Gilberto’s unique personality and amazing charisma will be forever remembered and greatly missed.
A visitation for Gilberto will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharrr. His chapel service will occur Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 10:00 AM with interment to follow at 11:00 AM at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Serving as pallbearers are Tomas Serna, Arnoldo Serna, Johnny Cantu, Patricio Serna, Rudy Cantu, Rudy Cantu Jr., Rob Cantu and Rolly Cantu.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley of Pharr, Texas.
