Maria Vela Salazar, born on March 11, 1938, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024. A beacon of strength and love, Maria dedicated her life to her family and the simple joys that knitting hearts closer together.
From her youthful days, Maria exemplified hard work as she joined her siblings on their Oregon venture, working hard when they would migrate. She eagerly danced all rhythms and music she enjoyed, often engaging in playful banter with her younger brothers who teased her fondly. Maria was the epitome of love and respect, a pillar of reliability who approached life with a strong work ethic and open heart. Her passion for travel led her on varied journeys, with a particular fondness for visiting the grand Basilicas. Las Vegas held a special place in her heart, sparkling a little brighter as she enjoyed the Elvis Presley Museum. Christmas was a cherished season for Maria as she happily prepared to see and make memories with all her family. The festive gatherings vibrated with laughter and the familiar calls of "chalupa" amid card games with her children, grandchildren, and other relatives. She infused every family movie night with excitement, ensuring her children’s eyes sparkled with the same thrill she felt for action movies. Creativity blossomed in the company of her grand and great-grandchildren. Together, they explored the colorful world of arts and crafts and even got to paint her nails. Maria's pastimes also reflected her personal tastes – an enduring affection for Elvis, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and indulging in the me-time of drawing and arts. Above her hobbies and interests soared her unshakeable faith.
Survived by her five children, Emilio Salazar, Daniel (Linda) Salazar, Leonor Salazar, Rosalinda (Ricardo) Salazar, Tony (Iris) Salazar; two brothers, Jesus "Jesse" Vela, Carlos Vela; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, many more family and friends.
