Dorinda was a devoted member of Faithful Missionary Baptist Church in Phenix City, where her faith anchored her life. She proudly served her country in the United States Army from July 1979 until her retirement as a spirited and steadfast Sergeant First Class in May 2000. As a Senior Noncommissioned Officer, her professionalism, mentorship, and unwavering example developed countless soldiers, both Commissioned and Noncommissioned, into distinguished leaders.
Dorinda’s life was marked by strength, compassion, and an unmistakable loving spirit. She carried herself with a presence that left a lasting imprint on the hearts of everyone who knew her. Her words, often firm and always full of love, lifted others up and encouraged them to be their best.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce P. and Juanita F. Smith, and her brother, Bruce R. Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ardes Shaw; her sons, Kendrick Shaw and Jamaal Shaw (Victoria); her grandchildren, Jeramie Shaw, Veyah Shaw, and Ella Shaw; her siblings, Terry Smith (Mary), Vera Hammond, and Gregory Smith (Sonya); and a host of beloved “honorary” children and grandchildren whose lives she touched deeply.
Dorinda’s legacy of love, service, and strength will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
