He was retired from AT&T, was a 33rd degree mason and a member of Midland Masonic Lodge. He was a family man who loved grilling, known for his "Freddy B's BBQ Sauce", fixing up old trucks, Auburn football, riding his mule on his property, but mostly loved spending time with his son, Chase.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Louise Morris, Melinda Kay Harvey, Richard Louis Morris and Michael Morris.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Gwen Byars Morris, son, Richard Chase Morris and wife, Benitra, brother-in-law, Gary Byars, nephew, Dr. Gary Byars, Jr. and cousins, Ann Riley, Lisa Bunch, Danielle Bradley, Anissa Page, Lydia Bassetti, Terri Bassetti and Dewayne Bassetti.
A visitation for family and friends for Fred will be held Friday, January 13, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 North, Phenix City, Alabama 36867. A celebration of life funeral service will occur Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM EST at Union Primitive Baptist Church, 132 Pitts Rd., Opelika, Alabama 36804. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Byars, Sr., Bob Nolan, Larry Jones, John Howard, Davey Haden, Jerry Farr and Fred Chambers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
