James "Jimmy" Edward Reese

James Edward " Jimmy" Reese , 67, of Phenix City, AL, left this life to meet his Lord on Tuesday evening, March 23, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 26, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. EST at Summerville Baptist Church, Summerville Rd., Phenix City, AL with Rev. Robert Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL 36867. Honorary pall bearers will be th Warren Moromoto's Sunday School Class.

Jimmy was born June 17, 1942 in Phenix City, Alabama to Leon Lester Reese and Annie Pearl Hearn Reese. He spent most of his life in Phenix City. He graduated from the Phenix City School System in the "Class of 1960" where he was active in all sports. He played football and track for Central High School and earned a full scholarship to the University of Georgia. After graduating from UGA, he worked for Kresge Company, JC Penney and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia before settling into the job he loved best,teaching. He taught at Central and Spencer High Schools, but the majority of his teaching Career was at Jordan High School. Jimmy was known to all his students and a lot of his friends as Coach Reese. He coached football, wrestling and track and served on the Phenix City Board of Education and Planning Commission.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Connie Sweatt Reese, six children, Jeff Reese (Kim) of Tallassee, AL, Randy Reese and Chris Reese of Columbus, GA, Scott Riddle (Pam) of Villa Rica, GA, Lorrie Greer of Phenix City, AL, Lindsay Reese of Birmingham, AL, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his devoted sister, Beverly Reese Stewart (Don) of Conyers, GA, brother, Michael Reese (Susan) of Dahlonega, GA and a big loving family of nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved dog, Murphy.

Inlieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Youth Ministry of Summerville Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL.
