

Leon D. Buchanan, 62, of Phenix City, Alabama, died Monday November 28, 2011 in Columbus, Georgia. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm (EST) Thursday December 1st at the Golden Acres Baptist Church in Phenix City with Dr. Ray Cummings and the Reverend Robert Goodman officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City,
AL., 36867. Interment will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Taylor French, Tucker French, Smith Jenkins, Dave Mobley,David Niles and Jeff Mann.
Mr. Buchanan was born January 18, 1949 in Shellman, Georgia son of the late Devaughter Buchanan and Mary Elizabeth Bryant Buchanan. He was employed by DMI Columbus Foundries and was a member of the Golden Acres Baptist Church and the Kareoke friends at the “Barn”. Mr. Buchanan was also a member of the American Legion Post 135 in Phenix City. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Christian Anne Buchanan.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Judy Rushing Buchanan , son, William David Buchanan, both of Phenix City, brothers, Larry and David Buchanan, both of Columbus, GA.,sister, Mary Ann Carter of Phenix City, mother-in-law, Wilma Rushing of Phenix City, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Patti and Paul Jenkins of Phenix City, Brenda and Kevin French of Sandy Hook, VA., Lisa Rushing of Phenix City, dear friends, Stephen and Cathy Pendleton of Maryland, James and Joanne Jones of Columbus, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
