I was an RN in the ICU at Cobb hospital. My patient was crumping right in front of us and Dr Luten decided to open up his belly then and there. I managed the vent/airway....iv pain medication and the sedative protocol and a versed drip. We opened up his stomach. Fixed a few bleeds. Maintained satisfactory homestatis......it was a great success and a great team..The only thing better is his pimento cheese!!

To the Luton Family, 
 I will never forget Luton , Jr. He was always kind to me. When I finished PA school, I remember eating breakfast with him in the doctors‘ lounge at the medical center. We always talked about family memories. And, of course, medicine. I learned a lot from him. He was the one cousin and person I wanted to be like. When we met, he always said to me “Hey Boy”. He was a good man and he will be missed. Praying for Lou and The  Luton  Family.

He was a great surgeon and a man who  cared and helped others in a lot of different ways.   He always put his patient's first.

I will always remember Dr. Luton's laugh and cutting up with everyone at Cobb Hospital. He would stop by the pharmacy a lot and tell us jokes. He will truly be missed. Prayers for Lou and his family.

I moved to town in 2014.  Dr. Luton welcomed me as only such an old school surgeon could.  I am proud to have gotten to know him if only for a relatively short time.  Upon his retirement he gave me his surgical head lamp and said he had some farming to do! I know he got the chance to enjoy some time away from the hectic life medicine can bring.  My heart and prayers go out to all of his loved ones.

Worked with Dr. Luton Sr. and Dr. Luton Jr. for many years .  So sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers to his family.  

Working with Drs. Luton Jr. and Sr. at Cobb Hospital for ten years was so much fun. Norman, as did his father, put his all into his work, caring for his patients with all he had and always treating staff with respect. Our surgery days together were always an adventure and I was sad to leave him and Dr. Weldon when a new opportunity came along for me.  We truly had the best two surgeons in Phenix City. So many great memories I will cherish from this great physician, who loved his life and his kids, and his farm. I never pass by his farm that I don't smile and reflect of those days at Cobb. 
Praying peace and comfort for his family during this time, knowing that he is gone too soon and will be greatly missed. But, oh the great memories left to share!  May the Lord bless you and keep you close in His Loving Arms. 

My first job in nursing was as Dr Luton Jr’s office nurse. He brought me into the OR with him on Fridays. He mentored me AND made me laugh. He was such a huge presence! He loved calling people by their last name. But he couldn’t or wouldn’t say Scarpaci. So he just called me Scar. I have so many wonderful memories of him and the time I spent working in his office.  He took care of my family members as if they were his own. And he encouraged my return to school for my RN.  Years after I’d moved on he’d see my mother and ask about me and she would tell me every single time.  I’ll always remember the kindness and love Dr Luton and Lou showed me. To Lou and family- my heart is truly broken for you all... Thinking of you and sending a prayer of love and peace. - Scar 

So sad to hear of his passing.  I will always remember  working around him at Cobb Hospital, I learned alot from him.  His patients were always number one with him and they knew it.  Prayers for his family during this emotional time.  

For many years I worked with Dr. Luton at Cobb Memorial, Phenix Medical Park, and Phenix Regional; all the years spent in the same building.  Over the years we laughed a lot, cried some, and fussed some, but I always learned something, and for that I am thankful.  

My prayers are with the family for the loss of their special member and I do pray for peace and comfort for each one of you. 


Dr. Luton was a wonderful person. I worked with him for many years. He was a very respected Surgeon. All that knew him loved him. I will miss seeing him around. I pray he is at peace. Thanks for all the great memories Dr. Luton. We will never forget all the good times and many laughs you brought to us!

I’m very sorry to hear of Norman’s passing.        I have many fond childhood memories  of neighborhood kids playing together during long summer days and evenings.  My condolences to all his family and loved ones.
