Born on January 22, 1928 in Columbus Ohio and before the age of one she and her parents moved to Phoenix Arizona and lived at 22 West Culver until she was married. Her grade school was Kenilworth and in later years she would return there back as a teacher.
As a child her summers were spent at the Scout Camp Geronimo at a cabin on the banks of Tonto Creek. There were wonderful summers; swimming, horseback riding, campfires and fishing with her father. But her mom was worried that her daughter wouldn’t grow up with any culture living in the West. So she was exposed to concerts and took English saddle riding lessons. She also began to take drama courses.
Later she would perform in recitals at the Phoenix Little Theater and performed in other stage performances in High School and College.
Barbara went to Phoenix Union High School and graduated in 1946. She went on to Phoenix College and graduated in 1948 and completed her education at the University of Iowa and graduated in 1950 with a B A Degree in Liberal Arts. At the University of Iowa she was a member of Zeta Phi Eta – Honorary Speech Fraternity.
Barbara was the first Speech and Hearing Therapist for the Phx Elementary Dist #1 from 1950 to 1954. She also worked during the summers for the Easter Seals as a speech therapist from 1950 thru 1956. She returned to work in 1962 after her daughter and son were born as a preschool teacher for the Jewish Community Center until 1977 and then she went on to teach Kindergarten at Rose Lane Baptist Church until she retired on 5/20/88.
Barbara first met her husband Roger Hart when he was 14 at Scout Camp and he came back into her life in 1951. They were married in May of 1953 at Trinity Cathedral. In Oct 1954 their daughter Leslie Anne was born and in January 1958 Steven Wayne was born. Barbara was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband Roger and a devoted mother to her children.
Barbara very much enjoyed traveling abroad with her husband but she enjoyed the most spending time with her family and grand children on camping trips, Christmas mornings, Birthdays etc. and getting the opportunity to spend one-on-one time taking care of her grand children. Barbara is survived by her son Steve Hart and daughter-in-law Cyndi Hart, Grand Children; Justin Hart (Jackie Hart) and Davis Hart (Amanda Hart) and Great Grand Children; Nora Hart, Helen Hart and Nolan Hart.
Barbara had a strong religious affiliation as an Episcopalian and attended All Saints Episcopal Church in excess of 50 yrs. When it became difficult for her to make it to church on a regular basis; she developed a relationship with the pastor at Fellowship Christian Care where she resided since 2004. She attended prayer studies, went on outside outings and practiced her writing skills which she enjoyed immensely.
