Born in Detroit, Ben was the son of Pierino (Peter) and Lorenza, immigrants from Italy. He spent his early childhood in nearby Dearborn before the family relocated to Phoenix in 1944. Ben attended St. Mary’s High School and after graduation enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Later, while working for Sky Chefs at Sky Harbor International Airport, he met Rebecca Jane Allegretti and in 1960 they were married.
Ben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and co-worker who passionately supported his family, St. Agnes church, school, and scouting. Ben was an avid walker and hiker, logging untold miles in the Phoenix mountain preserves. He deeply enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing checkers with his grandkids, listening to jazz music, watching old westerns, enjoying a cannoli together and telling jokes. His charismatic smile, infinite love, compassion and kindness will be remembered by all.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Nancy Rossi, niece, Loren Ralls, and brother Nello Rossi. Ben is survived by his two sons Benjamin (Lena) and John (Tiffany), five grandchildren, Eden, Vivian, Nico, Maya, and Luca and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation and rosary will be held from 6 - 8 pm, Sunday, October 17th at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Funeral Home, 4310 E. Southern Ave. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am the following morning at St. Agnes Church, 1954 N. 24th St. Burial will follow at East Resthaven Cemetery, 4310 E. Southern Ave. Face coverings are required for all service attendees.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
