Lonnie & Ulah Houston on April 20, 1937 in Fayette
County, Texas.
In 1955, she married Eddie McDonald and to that union
they were blessed with six children; Valerie, Eddie, Karen,
Monica, Sharon, and Verlane. Jean later married Elroy
Smith in April 1972. Elroy passed away in April 1999.
Jean first accepted Christ at Grants Church of God in
Christ, Austin, Texas in 1954. She later united with
Jackson Memorial Church of God in Christ, San Diego,
California, and was baptized there on December 21, 1997
by Pastor J.A. Blake. After relocating back to Phoenix, AZ
in 2011, Jean united with Emmanuel Church of God in
Christ.
Jean became a professional nurse in 1966 after graduating
from Phoenix College. She worked many years as a
licensed nurse in both Arizona and California.
Jean was preceded in death by three of her children; Valerie
McDonald, Sharon McDonald, and Eddie McDonald; and
her brother Taylor Ray Houston. She is survived by her
children Karen Hines of Detroit, MI; Monica Udofia of
Phoenix, AZ; and Verlane McDonald of West Haven, CT.
She also leaves behind a sister, Precious Evans of Las
Vegas, NV, and a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren,
nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
