Margaret, a 64 year resident of Arizona, Passed away last of August while on vacation. She was born in Jackson County, Kansas City, Missouri on October 24, 1921. She was the older of two girls, born from Ernest and Ione Collings. She grew up in Holiday, Kansas where her and her family lived over the grocery store in which Ernest and Ione were the proprietors. Ernest was raised on a Jackson County Farm near the town of Raytown, Missouri. There he acquired property and built a house and a grocery store next to one another in Raytown.
Margaret attended and graduated from Raytown High School. After high school she enrolled in Kansas State University, where she was a class officer in student government. She graduated in 1944 with a degree in Home Economics. She met her husband to be at Kansas State and got married to Keith at Lackland Air base in Waco, Texas on July 23, 1944. Keith was an Army Air Force B17 pilot, and together they traveled from post to posts in the states. After a few years on the Kansas farm, and with four children, the family moved to Casa Grande, Arizona.
Margaret taught school in Casa Grand and in the Tohono O'odham tribal lands. After her children had moved out of the house, Margaret and Keith moved to Mesa, Arizona where she volunteered in the Main Mesa Hospital (presently Banner Hospital). Keith and Margaret retired in Tempe, Arizona. There Margaret was proceeded in death by her husband Keith Jones.
She continues to live on through her sons Robert in Yuma, AZ, Stephen in Tempe, AZ, Bradley (Jill) in Montgomery, OH, and her daughter Carolyn (Paul) in Vallejo, CA. Grandchildren Keith Jones in Columbus, OH, Brena Jones in Oxford, NC, Ryan Winchester in Albuquerque, NM, Eric Winchester in Las Vegas, NV, Katie Winchester in Arlington, TX, Janae Kirby (Robert) in Santa Cruz, CA, Caleb Winchester in Vallejo, CA. There is as well, her two nephews and numerous nieces and nephews on Keith’s side; and 14 great grandchildren.
Memorial services are to be announced at a later date. A Private burial will be held in Lerado, Kansas. Memorials may be designated for Dayspring United Methodist Church- 1365 E. Elliot Rd Tempe, AZ 85284.
